1. Eligibility

Submissions for consideration in Spandexless Annual is open to creators worldwide who are at least eighteen years (18) years old at the time of entry.

2. Sponsor

Spandexless Annual submissions will be evaluated by, and the final publication will be produced as a co-production of Spandexless and GeekChic Promotions, LLC (dba GeekChic Comics).

3. Content Guidelines

  1. Acceptable submissions to Spandexless Annual must be:

    1. Non-superhero

    2. Original works (no fan comics, no licensed characters)

  2. According to the missions of Spandexless and GeekChic Comics to feature female-led comics and previously unknown talents, submissions with the following will be given preference, but submissions of any kind adhering to the rules in part 3A will be considered:

    1. Female protagonists

    2. Diverse creative teams

    3. Previously unpublished

4. Acceptable Submission Types

  1. Creators must submit one of the following to be considered for publication in Spandexless Annual:

    1. a) a completed script for a comic that has no artist attached

    2. b) a complete pitch packet for an in-production comic with both writer and artist attached

    3. c) a complete comic

  1. Submissions must be for comics of either four (4), eight (8), or (16) pages, all-inclusive. Submissions of comics of other lengths will not be considered.

  2. Submissions must be received through the submissions portal at spandexless.com/submit. Submissions received in any other way will be deleted without consideration.

4. Submission Time Frame

  1. Submissions of all types for consideration in Spandexless Annual will begin July 22, 2017, 12:00 a.m. EST.

  2. Submissions of a script with no artist attached must be received no later than September 18, 2017, 11:59 p.m. PST.

  3. Submissions of a complete pitch packet for an in-production comic with both writer and artist attached must be received no later than October 2, 2017, 11:59 p.m PST.

  4. Submissions of a complete comic must be received no later than October 16, 2017, 11:59 p.m. PST.

  5. No submissions of any kind will be accepted after October 16, 2017, 11:59 p.m. PST.

  6. Submissions will be evaluated on a rolling basis. If the total number of a submission type is reached before the deadline, submissions for that type will be closed.

5. Submission Evaluation and Acceptance

  1. A limited number of each type of submission will be accepted.

    1. A total of four (4) sixteen-page (16-page) comics will be accepted for publication.

    2. A total of eight (8) eight-page (8-page) comics will be accepted for publication.

    3. A total of five (5) four-page (4-page) comics will be accepted for publication.

  2. Submissions will be evaluated on a rolling basis. If the total number of a submission length is reached before the deadline, submissions for that length will be closed.

  3. Acceptance or rejection of submissions will be delivered by:

    1. October 2, 2017, 11:59 p.m. PST for a comic script with no artist attached.

    2. October 16, 2017, 11:59 p.m. PST for a pitch packet for an in-production comic.

    3. October 31, 2017, 11:59 p.m. PST for a complete comic.

6. Editorial Oversight and Future Talent

  1. If you are accepted for publication, you will accept working under the editorial oversight of Spandexless and GeekChic Comics editors. This includes but is not limited to:

    1. Story notes and requested revisions.

    2. Art notes and requested revisions.

    3. Coloring notes and requested revisions.

    4. Lettering notes or requested revisions.

  2. If an accepted submission does not agree to editorial oversight, the submission may be dropped from publication and replaced with another.

  3. If a submission is a script with no artist attached, Writer accepts that it is Writer’s responsibility to compensate any future artists, colorists, or letterers. Spandexless and GeekChic Comics will consult, edit, and assist in finding talent to fill these positions, but will not directly pay them for work on Writer’s comic.

  4. If a submission is a pitch packet for an in-production comic with writer and artist attached, Creators accept that it is Creators’ responsibility to compensate any future additional artists, colorists, or letterers. Spandexless and GeekChic Comics will consult, edit, and assist in finding talent to fill these positions, but will not directly pay them for work on Creators’ comic.

7. Compensation

  1. Submitting Creators accept that Spandexless and GeekChic Comics will be running a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise capital for publication, and that payment will not be rendered until the completion of a successful Kickstarter campaign and publication of Spandexless Annual.

  2. Final Published Creators will be paid the following flat fees for their work within 60 days after publication of Spandexless Annual. Payments will only be sent to the copyright-holder and must be divided among other talent at copyright-holders’ discretion:

    1. Four-page (4-page) comics: TBD

    2. Eight-page (8-page) comics: TBD

    3. Sixteen-page (16-page) comics: TBD

  3. Payments as listed above will be the sole compensation for comics submitted via the Spandexless Annual talent search and submission portal and subsequently published in the print edition of Spandexless Annual 2017. Any profits from the sale of the final print edition will belong solely to Spandexless and GeekChic Promotions, LLC.

  4. Creators who submit works via the Spandexless Annual talent search and submission portal and subsequently published in Spandexless Annual will receive royalties as follows for all digital sales for a period of no more than five (5) years after publication. Payments will only be sent to the copyright-holder and must be divided among other talent at copyright-holders’ discretion:

    1. Four-page (4-page) comics: 1% of total sales, paid quarterly

    2. Eight-page (8-page) comics: 2% of total sales, paid quarterly

    3. Sixteen-page (16-page comics): 4% of total sales, paid quarterly

8. Assignment of Rights

  1. Submission of materials for publication does not assign any rights to Spandexless, nor to GeekChic Promotions, LLC.

    1. Any material not accepted for publication will be deleted and not retained on any Spandexless or GeekChic drives or servers no later than December 31, 2017.

  2. Any material accepted for publication will continue to remain under the sole copyright of the Creators. Any non-comics content of Spandexless Annual will be the sole copyright of Spandexless and GeekChic Promotions, LLC.

9. Accepted Submission Technical Specifications

If a submission is accepted to Spandexless Annual, Creators will be required to deliver files according to technical specifications provided including, but not limited to, page size and setup, file type, color profile and dpi. Failure to provide files as requested may result in removal of submission from book.

10. Exclusivity

  1. If a previously unpublished comic is accepted for publication in Spandexless Annual, Creators will be asked not to publish said comic in any other form for a period of eighteen (18) months from date of acceptance.

    1. If an accepted comic is dropped from Spandexless Annual for any reason prior to publication, the previous restriction will no longer be in effect.

11. Guarantee of Publication

  1. Acceptance of a submission is not a guarantee of publication. Spandexless and GeekChic Promotions, LLC reserve the right to discontinue relationship with any Creators and their associated work at any time, for any reason.

  2. Spandexless Annual will be published by December 31, 2018. If Spandexless Annual is not published by December 31, 2018, Spandexless Annual will be cancelled, and all comics accepted for publication will be deleted from all Spandexless and GeekChic Promotions, LLC drives and servers no later than January 31, 2019.

12. Creators’ Rights

  1. Creators who submit to Spandexless Annual reserve the right to remove their submission from consideration at any time. Requests must be sent to publisher@geekchicpromotions.com. No submissions will be accepted at this email address.

  2. Creators who are accepted for publication in Spandexless Annual reserve the right to request their piece removed from the Spandexless Annual up to twelve weeks (12) prior to publication date. Request of removal after this period may not be able to be accommodated due to production and printing timelines. Requests must be sent to publisher@geekchicpromotions.com. No submissions will be accepted at this email address.
